How to fix Vercel "No Output Directory named 'dist' found after the Build completed"

The build log looks fine, then the deploy fails with Error: No Output Directory named "dist" found after the Build completed (or "public" or "build"). Vercel looked in one folder and your build wrote to another, or wrote nothing.

Why it happens

  • The Framework Preset is "Other", so Vercel expects public, while Vite writes dist and Create React App writes build.
  • The app lives in a subfolder (common in Bolt and Cursor exports, such as frontend/), but the Root Directory is the repo root.
  • The build command is wrong, so nothing is built. For example npm run dev or an empty command.
  • vite.config sets a custom build.outDir.

Fix

  1. Open the project in Vercel, then Settings, Build and Deployment (called General on older projects).
  2. Set Framework Preset to Vite, Create React App, or Next.js as appropriate.
  3. Set Root Directory to the folder that holds the app's package.json.
  4. Check Build Command is npm run build and Output Directory matches what the build creates (Vite: dist, CRA: build; leave blank for Next.js).
  5. Redeploy.

Not sure where the output goes? Run npm run build locally and look at which folder appears.

If it is a single-page app

After it deploys, refreshing a sub-page may 404. See the SPA refresh guide.

Check the fix

  1. The deployment shows Ready.
  2. The live URL loads and the browser console has no errors.
